FCPS Part 1 Exam Structure

The FCPS Part 1 exam consists of two papers. Paper I is the same for all specialties, while Paper II is specialty-specific.

Paper I — Common for All Specialties

  1. Anatomy — Gross anatomy, embryology, histology, CNS, head & neck, viscera, bronchial tree, endocrine glands
  2. Physiology, Pharmacology & Biochemistry — Body temperature regulation, kidney function, blood pressure, cardiac cycle, blood groups, coagulation, autonomic nervous system, pharmacokinetics, metabolism
  3. Pathology including Microbiology — Nutritional diseases, biochemical tests, medical genetics, immunology, bacteria, viruses, parasites
  4. Research & Biostatistics — Basic concepts, epidemiology
  5. Behavioral Science & Medical Ethics — General principles

Paper II — Specialty-Specific

Paper II covers advanced topics in your chosen specialty. The subjects typically include:

  • Anatomy, Histology & Embryology (specialty-focused)
  • Physiology & Biochemistry
  • Pathology, Microbiology & Immunology
  • Pharmacology (clinical emphasis)
